Email hello@scaledthought.com with the subject “Canada region”: what you would run, and the rule your data has to meet. We read every one. Our email isn't hosted in Canada, so please don't send customer data.
01 · In Canada
What stays in Canada.
Every account has one home region, chosen at signup, and its keys start with st_ca_ or st_us_. For a Canadian account:
- Requests, prompts and completionsProcessed in Canada
- Served by model servers in Canada and processed in memory. They aren't stored or written to logs, except the batch and fine-tuning files you upload and their results (below).
- Account and usage recordsStored in Canada
- Keys (stored as hashes), budgets, credit balance and usage: model, token counts, cost and timings. No content.
- Batch and fine-tuning filesStored in Canada
- Encrypted, until you delete them or 30 days after they are created (longer only while a job is still using them).
- Other inference providersNever used
- Canadian requests are never sent to an outside inference provider. The ones we can use process data in the US, so they serve US accounts only.
A Canadian key sent to the US API gets 421 wrong_region with the Canadian base URL, and the request's body isn't read, logged or forwarded. Every response carries x-st-region and x-st-data-retention: none, so your agent can check where it was served.
HTTP/1.1 421 Misdirected Request

x-st-data-retention: none

What isn't.
- PaymentsUnited States
- Card payments and auto-reloads for both regions are processed by Stripe in the US. Stripe receives the card and billing details you enter with it, the amount, and our account id, top-up id and region as references. No prompts or completions.
- Bank transfersUnited States
- If you pay an invoice by bank transfer, it arrives in the company's bank account, and our US books import it with the payer name, memo, amount and date. Once it is matched to your invoice number, our books keep only the invoice number, amount and date, and the payer text is erased; the original bank statement and export still hold it.
- The company's booksUnited States
- Our accounting records are kept in the US. From Canada they receive daily totals only: amounts and counts, no customer names, ids or content, and no account count for any group of fewer than five accounts.
- Email you send usOutside Canada
- Messages to any of our email addresses are kept by our email provider outside Canada, in the US or other countries.
- This websiteGlobal network
- The website (not the API) is served from a global network that sees ordinary request data such as IP address and browser. The API's domain lookups use a global DNS provider.
A current list of the companies that process data for us, with what each receives and where, is available on request. Write to privacy@scaledthought.com. More on keys and retention: security.
03 · Models
Models in Canada.
Not every model will be offered in Canada: some are served only in the US. Once the region opens, your agent lists the models live there, with their prices:
04 · Credits
Prepaid credits.
Every call is paid from prepaid credits, $20 to $2,000 per top-up, at most $2,000 per 24 hours and 2 open approval links at a time. Your agent asks for a top-up and sends the approval link to its human, who pays by card. There is no subscription, and nothing is charged without that approval.
Details on pricing.
05 · Setup
Setting up.
Once the region opens, one command creates a Canadian account, writes ST_API_KEY and ST_BASE_URL to .env, and lists the models live in Canada. Until then the Canadian API doesn't answer, so the command fails with network_error.
If US processing works for you now
Tell your agent the line below. It sets up a US account: its data is processed and stored in the US, and an account's region is permanent, so it can't move to Canada later. A Canadian account would be a new one.
